1. Sonnstein Panorama Loop
It is one of the most beautiful tours in the Salzkammergut. Early in the morning we set off from the Katzerhaus and walk to the church in Ebensee. From there, simply follow the well-signposted trail.
First you conquer the Großer Sonnstein. Sure-footedness is recommended here – the view is magnificent (especially when the morning sun climbs over the Traunstein) and the natural rock ledges invite you to take a rest.
Then comes a short descent followed by the climb up the Kleiner Sonnstein. It is easier to climb than the Großer Sonnstein, but the view of Traunkirchen and the Alpine foothills is even more impressive.
The way back follows the old lakeshore road, now closed to traffic. We warmly recommend dangling your feet in the cool Traunsee along the way – or simply jumping right in.
